Are 1st Gen & 2nd Gen Power antennas the same? and other misc.

Okay,

I had a guy that deals in used Toyota parts send me a power antenna. I get it today and it looks like crap. I hook it up and hear the motor working but the mast doesn't go up or down. I call the guy back and he says that it worked for him when he tested it.

I tell him it doesn't work for me and I need a different one. He says that he has one from a 2nd Gen that is in great shape and it will fit a 1st Gen. I tell him I'm not sure as I think the fenders are different, he tried to assure me it was the same part and he will send it later this week.

Are the 1st Gen power antennas the same as 2nd Gen's for 4Runners?

I know you all will try and convice me to get a fixed mast antenna, but I'm trying to keep my street queen mainly stock.

On another note, he sent me the "Toyota" and "V6" grill badges, since mine is missing them. How do these mount? They both have screws in the back, but I don't have corresponding holes in my grill (aftermarket grill I'm guessing ) The badges fit perfectly in the slots of the grill, just no where to secure the screws.

Guy also sent me an altimeter too, friggin thing had a dent in the corner of it (for $30 bucks what should I expect right?), not a good day for me and craigslist....at least I got my stereo working right.

Thanks.

Lee,

It is gray. The guy is going to try and find me another cover and mail that to me. If he finds a another whole clinometer for me you got dibs on this one.

Anyone know about the antenna?

Never buy used parts w/o pictures first...unless you can see them in person, which is even better. Be glad you are only out a few bucks and have learned a lesson.

If this person ends up stiffing you more, or doesn't make this right, please do share who it is so we can all avoid him/her like the plague.

Good luck.

that is my plan, but I want to see if he makes things right first. He's not a member of the board btw

I'm a bit of a gambler by nature. I bought my 4Runner without seeing so much as a picture of it, let alone driving it. Overnighted the guy half the $$$ upfront and drove to pick it up that weekend.

Your the first person I've ever seen install a power antenna. Most people ditch them for the fixed mast one.

Yeah I figured people would try and get me to put in a fixed mast. I have one now, just want the stock power one back in for aesthetical reasons.

I don't see much action off-road, just a little fishing/camping, so breakage isn't as big of an issue for me. Besides the fixed mast antenna I had laster 15 less years than the power one! It broke after a couple of months.

If you go to www.toyotapartsales.com they will list different prices for the 1st and 2nd gen power antennas (they don't give you a part # though). But I guess it could still fit.

Did you search on 4Crawler? He usually has those little tidbits of info - especially about electrical stuff...
