1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th where'd you go?

so my son has had an 86 4runner for about a year and a half now and about 2 weeks ago the truck has been acting up; it revs high in every gear with the clutch all the way out. we can barely get up to legal speed on the freeway before 2-3 miles because we can get no power out of any gears due to the extreme revving.
any reason why the gears rev so high so fast?
p.s.- the gears all shift perfect, so Iam not sure if its the clutch

any help would be greatly appreciated!

if the clutch is out and the engine is revving high and not going as fast as it should be at that rpm, its because the clutch is slipping.

You need a new clutch.

if the clutch is fully engaged at the pedal, but acts like its halfway in and slips, im gunna have to go ahead and say your clutch is shot.

Clutch is toast for sure. And if its slipping that bad, you are chowdering your flywheel too. Get it replaced before you do more damage.

Clutch is slipping so should pop a new one in.

I got a new flywheel for 32 bucks from Schucks (partsAmerica). They usually want around 80 bucks or have your turned by a machine shop

stock clutches are around 120+ for the full kit (pressure plate, clutch, new throughout bearing, pilot bearing)
