a 3.4 swap

Are you actually claiming that the Jet chip made a big difference, or everything together made a difference?

Take the 3.0 out. Push it over a cliff. That's the fastest that motor will ever go.

Find 3.4 from newer Tacoma/4Runner and drop it in. Spending money on a 3.0 is like polishing a turd.

Regear. It makes a tonne of difference even going from 4.10 to 4.56. Second (off road performance) buy a locker- I'd hate it if I'd invested in MTs and some truck with ATs was able to go farther.

the only thing the jet chip does is alter the coolant temp sensor signal to cause a slightly richer fuel mixture. it doesn't affect timing, or anything else for that matter. and it doesn't even do it intelligently. it's just a resistor biasing the coolant sensor towards colder engine temps.

Yep, those chips are junk. Im sure you're getting less then average fuel mileage now.

As for mods:

Intake (you seem to have it covered with the overrated K&N fipk)
Cams (expensive, hard to install, worth the gains if you can)
Headers (again expensive, hard to install but they are worth a few hp)

Other then that, you need to get into oversized valves and so forth, it gets pricey quick.

I wouldnt bother doing anything that expensive unless you are rebuilding the engine and want to get it running better.

Save for a 5vfze or even the 1uz swap. Much more power available from those engines.

Re-gear your differentials to 4.88 if you have a 5sp or 5.71 if you have an auto. This will help low end power

That was kinda my point ... with as locked down as ALL Toyota ECU's are, chips can't make much of a difference.

mmmm, i say sell the aftermarket crap you have on there now to some other sucker, part out rest of motor on e-bay, and drop in a 3.4. i'm just waiting for the day my motor goes bye-bye! ok, so i help it along at times! checkout asap motors, the 3.4 is actually $200 cheaper than the 3.o (3.4-$1500 3.0-$1700).
