What on earth does this phrase mean?
Does this mean you HAVE a code 22? Do you think it has anything to do with an "air flow sensor"? Did you look up what the code means?
"Open or short in engine coolant temp. sensor circuit for 0.5 sec. or more. (THW)"

mafs it is the mass air flow sensor . and the code that the obd1 for it is 24 .24 is a intake air flow sensor there is only 1 on a 95 that I can find and that is the mafs .and yes the 22 is the engine coolant temp sensor that I am going to replace next

so what I have been told is that the engine coolant temp sensor will tell the comp that it is still cold and will choke the engine and is gone on long enough that it will plug the cat

Okay, you don't have a mass air flow sensor, you have a vane (or volume) air flow sensor (vaf). Roughly the same function, different technology. Code 22 is for "Open or short in intake air temp. sensor circuit for 0.5 sec. or more. (THA)". NOT air flow sensor (or vaf or maf or mafs). The intake air sensor is located in the vaf, so it sounds like you have a little bit of knowledge and are jumping to conclusions.
In any event, I still have no idea what you are trying to say with "I did the mafs..." Does that mean you replaced the Vane Air Flow sensor (without even knowing what you were replacing)? Did you test it first? Replacing a part "on the blind" can sometimes help you out, but most often it just costs money. Your problem is in the circuit, and the intake air temp. sensor alone is only a small part of that circuit.
There is no choke on your engine. It is true that if you ignore a MIL long enough it will damage something. How long has your MIL been on?

not sure how long it has had the problems just bought the 4runner trying to fix it but not having much luck . yes I put a new mass air flow sensor and a new water temp sensor in and rest the codes by unhooking the battery for 10 min drove it around and now when I test the codes it blinks non stop . is that because I have only drove it about 15 mil and let it idle a few it seems to run hot the temp on my catalytic converter is 500f on the inlet and 500f on the out . and thanks scope103 for your help

Blinking non-stop means there are no codes set. It may take longer than 15 miles before any remaining problems set a code again after you erased them.
BTW, you can erase the codes by pulling the EFI fuse in the fuse box under the hood. That way your radio presets don't get erased at the same time. Plus it's easier than undoing the battery cables multiple times.
