1994 T-100 Vehicle speed sensor?
1994 T-100 3.0L 4wd. I have an MIL (code #51 I believe for the vehicle speed sensor) that comes on at highway speeds. speedometer doesn't work, as well as odometer(at all times).
I'm curious if there are any common problems with this? And what are the possible fixes? Thanks.

VSS1 (electronic sender to the combo meter and others) is probably bad (though, of course, it could just be a wiring issue). They usually degrade slowly; first with the occasional drop to zero MPH then pop up, until it gets longer and longer.
RockAuto has the part, but there are different ones based on your transmission, etc. RockAuto has pictures of each one, so it is reasonable to remove your existing one and match the picture.
The part is expensive, so if you're so inclined you should test it first. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...n-done-286682/

If you have the cable speedo, VSS1 is a reed switch inside the combo meter. The diagnostic for that type can be found here: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b.../6combinat.pdf (BE-33)

My '94 has the electronic VSS1, so I would be surprised if you have the cable. (But there is a part number for one http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/...371034010.html, so wadda I know?) But the cable is pretty big; you should see it sticking out of the transfer case in the place the drawing shows VSS1.
IF you have the cable speedo, you can lose VSS1 and the speedometer can still work. Since you've lost the speedo and odometer, if you have the cable I would suspect THAT is what is bad.

Okay I confirmed the cable for the speedo. I pulled the cable out from behind the instrument cluster and its clearly broken. It would make sense that the cable broke: The speedo quit and MIL came on suddenly as I was driving.
Sorry for all the trouble, you have been very helpful.
