1994 SR5 22RE Daily Driver Bore Limit?

I am new to these forums (as of tonight) but very familar with engine building ETC...

Looking for some advise, from experienced engine builders, on what the 1994 style 22R/E stock block can be bored too without block, cooling or cylinder issues?

Thanks,
Clint

It can be bored to 6.0 liters safely...

Not really...

I have seen a few guys with 2.5L 22R/e engines in their daily drivers...

I was calculating that it can go to 6.1.314/r3=52.6L....

From my research today, it looks like .080 is the limit but doesn't sound very streetable.

I basically found that with a few nice parts available you can take one to just under 2.7L if you wanted to. With good forged pistons, just under 2.4 is very reasonable.

Now my issue is figuring out which pistons to use -~

Apparently the issue you run into is cylinder wall integrity. Once you get too big ( and that varies from block to block) the cylinder walls flex too much and you end up losing more than you gain.

If you want to up your displacement you need to look at stroke.

also the stock head doesn't really flow good enough to support much of an increase in displacement.

hmmmmm, interesting!!!!

Based off of port and combustion chamber design the stock head kicks ass compared to many stock head designs in a similar category. From my perspective the stock head flows fantastic for the displacement with a little work and the correct valves.

I have not gotten to the flow bench yet but from preliminary work there are great gains to be had. The exhaust ports can work great, the intake ports do contain some old technology but can still be made rather efficient (do not underestimate them).

Based off of my calculations the head is not the limiting factor but more the intake assembly, valve body and injectors.

I would love some wet flow numbers to compare to if anyone has them?

LC overbores to .080 over (2mm) - my understanding is that not all blocks make it. I believe most blocks can be taken to .060 over - 93.5mm - Ask Tim at DOA for his experience.. he's done a lot of blocks.
