1994 4Runner 3.0 Power Issue

I've looked into this before and I know that the 3.0 V6 doesn't have much power but is there anyway to increase the power without a swap? I live in California so I have to deal with all the Smog control laws. It mostly has trouble speeding up during any incline. It gets up to speed but it takes awhile.

You maybe able to fit a less restrictive exhaust and keep it within cally emissions.

Possibly regear. There is no cost effective way to pull power out of that paperweight of an engine.

I was just about to post this elsewhere, but I hope you don't mind if I share it here too. My mechanic friend here at the camp where we all work/live replaced the stock muffler with a Raptor turbo muffler by Flowtech and MAN!!!! The truck has some pull to it now. It used to feel like it was just kinda getting around, but it feels noticeably stronger now. My wife was the first to notice since she drives it primarily, but I drove it yesterday and I was impressed. It's no rocket ship mind you, but it doesnt feel sluggish anymore. It gets up to speed and does hills with some enthusiasm and I wish I had done this earlier. Hope that helps !
Also, it helps to have not too big of a tire. I'm running 225/75/15's... And one last thing, the exhaust note sounds sorta like a mild V8 at idle now (pretty nice) and it's not much louder than stock...

Thinking about porting the heads on a 3.0 alittle before I send them to a machine shop. Any objections?

I didn't know about that, I'll definitely look into it. And its pretty inexpensive, the catch is putting it on but its all good. Thanks a lot man. I really needed a cheap way to increase power since I can't really afford the 3.4 engine swap.
