and while you're feeling confused, search "high steer" and "hi steer"
the first should get you info on marijuana and how it affects the flavor of beef when the bull od's, and the second should show how to wave at bulls and get a response.

Well SHAKEHL04

Welcome to YT!

When sasing your rig you will want to run high steer..
You can get the kit through, trail gear, marlincrawler, all pro, etc...........

Some people recommend moving your steering box, others didn't have to..

When i sas'd my 90. i did NOT move the steering box. Now my tie rod and drag link SLIGHTLY contact each other under full flex, so i most likely will be moving my box, unless I can find a slightly shorter pit man arm.

i want to do sas on my 91 4x4 pickup 22re, but dont know how much it will cost me. im thinking 8" lift around 35" tires or so, prices seem to be around $4000 doing it yourself. i would prob be use an axel out of a older yota, and rebuild it, and change gearinf front and back. What gears are a good choice? what do i have to do to my transfer case? and is there a kit i can buy that can help me do this myself? thanks. o and $4000 including tires and everything.

since you posted this in another thread as well.. ill post my answer here too..

8" lift is WAY too much IMO.

Im clearing 36"s absolutely fine on a 4" sas kit.. i think i could go to 37's-38's with very minor trimming..

$4000 might be enough..
I spent over $2000 on just the front and i still havn't gotten longs yet.
Is that $4000 price tag for the tires as well?

Yeah I am running thirty sevens on 7inches of lift...you are going to need a lot more than 4k for all this..my tires were 2500 bucks (5 of them, with rims of course), the kit is about 2k for front and rear, then the axles has to be regeared about 1k, and if you are going to regear you might as well put lockers in 2k, then you will need new driveshafts$800, then if you are regearing, you might as well rebuild the rear and front axles 1k...

now those are estimates rounded up...but if you run larger than 35s you need 5.29s, and like i said, if you are in there, you might as well do lockers and rebuild, to save you some labor!! Plus the stock birfs arent going to handle 35in+ tires for long, then you need longfields, which are about $700!!

All that being said, I dont think you can pull it off for 4k with tires...i think that may only be enough for the SAS, rear lift, and gears... you might want to do some more research before you jump into this....what is your reason for doing a SAS anyway?? Looks? rock crawling??

iv asked a few ppl about doing sas and the whole deal, i said 8 inch because i wanted to asume the most i would have to spend, and im prob going to do around 4 to 6 now, 35" tires and lockers. I am not going to jump into it rightnow, im just getting ideas and prices and appreciate all your help. I plan on driving mine stock on 31" this summer and hopfully next year i will have the time and money to sas and all. I like the look and flex u get out of sas, that's why i want to do this. ifs just looks weird lifted 6", and flex is out the window.

I did my sas for probably under $500. the most expensive thing was the high steer kit- a must have. everything else I had sitting around my garage. didn't get gears yet cause the built turbo'd motor pushes the 38's fine for now (in 4th gear) and the dual cases still give me low enough gearing till I can get my d 60 in the front. I just want to get away from the birfields. I think the springs I'm Running are only 2" and with the crosmember and shackles i don't think I'm more than 4" over stock. I had to trim alot of rust!

It should look like this.

You should plate the frame with an IFS steering box mount kit...plates the frame and sleeves the holes. Since you have to plate the frame, move it forward and rotate it like in the picture and you won't have any problems and can use your standard pitman arm.

keep it as low as possible. I did 4" up front and 5" in the rear on mine and am wishing the COG was lower..
