1991 Rear Window does not roll down but will roll up?

Can anyone please help me? I have a rear window that goes up but not down.when purchased it worked and slowly it began to worked at times. now it does not work at all.I have tested and sprayed contact cleaner on all sensors and swithces that are along the way from the console switch to the relay to the actual motor and locking sensors/switches. I have tested the continuity from the console switch to the motor. all sensor work as well as relay and motor. I have tested with other working motor, relay and console switch and no dice! PLEASE HELP!

I just went through the same thing with my 94 4runner. I would recommend pulling the connector off the motor and connecting the motor to a 12v source...I used a spare battery. Just hook up one wire to the pos. and one to the neg. (clamp or wedge them in place on the batt terminal) then touch one wire to each each side of the motor's terminals. If nothing happens, reverse them. If the window goes up, like it did on mine, then you know the relay is probably bad...like mine was. I got one for a fiver at the local junk yard (oh yeah...that's not PC anymore...the auto recycler...whatever).

If that doesn't work:

Be sure to take off the arm rest and check the switch connection...on mine, some hillbilly disconnected it to hide the fact that the window didn't work...had I not checked it, I would still be out there scratching my arse.

Be sure to cycle through the rear wiper a couple of times to make sure it's properly seated, if it's not, it will prevent the window from rolling up.

Additionally, insure the gate is up; a switch there will also prevent a rollup if the gate is down (try jiggling the closed gate while operating the switch to see if it's the culprit).

It's not a complicated system, YOU CAN DO IT!

I am having the same problem w/ a new 90 4runner I bought. The rear window will roll up, but I am unable to get it roll down. I have swapped out the black relay box from my other 90 4runner and I still have the same problem. I have checked the motor and it works fine. When I turn the key, I can hear the relay box click, but nothing happens. I am not getting anyhting thru the red wire to the motor. FWIW, the boxes from 92-95 are different and will not work in the 90 4runner. My relay box is black and the ones from 92-95 are blue. I haven't seen one from a 91, so it may be the same... They will plug in the same, but when you try to operate the window, the rear wiper comes on.

Anyone have a clue????????
