1991 IFS swap to late 80's 4x4 frame?
Hello Everyone,
Im new to Yotatech, so I apologize if I am asking a stupid question. I searched but did not find an answer I was looking for.
I just bought a 1991 22re 2wd standard cab pickup...and of course can't wait to get it lifted ( I'm helping to build a very large mud truck with my girlfriends brother). I found a donor 1989 4x4 with no motor or trans on 37's that I could get cheaper than those wheels tires and IFS eliminator kit.
How feasible is this graft (1991 cab and bed swapped to the 4x4)?
Or if you guys have better suggestions as far as swapping which bits to which frame...
Thank you in advance!
Willie

89 & 91 have the same body style (a few minor differences between 2wd and 4wd; wouldn't notice them if you didn't know what you were looking for) and frame (a few small differences in the 2wd and 4wd front suspention obviously), so it's very possible to do

Awesome, Thanks Iamsuperbleeder. I went looking for 4x4 Yotas and everything I went to see in my budget were just well, not worth the money, and the effort to make them a daily driver - offroad/mudtruck. The lil 91 I found is in great shape and runs great more the daily driver type....So found some very reasonable 4x4's that would make a good swap. Again thanks.. I'm sure I will be all over this forum soon enough when I get this swap or SAS build going'

Waskillywabbit, The 91 is IFS 22re...runs great. the 89 4x4 I am trying to get a hold of has no motor or trans, and I guess was set up for a small block. It is sitting (lifted) on 37's. I was figuring on putting the 91 on the 4x4 fram, then getting a 5 spd later...just running 2wd till i get the 5 5spd and transfer case. does that make sense?

Camo, Wabbit... Sorry for the stupid questions...but, am I not understanding that 89 4x4's were not Solid front axels? I thought that the were...if it is IFS and is clearing 37's then Would the motor and cab and all that swap be a a good deal?... if not, I am looking to do the SAS, I have been all up and down these forums researching it. Just like everyone though, I'm on a budget... I have access to a lift and welder so DIY SAS would be the best budget wise for me...any tips would be great...Cant wait to get it in the mud...not many big rocks in Florida

Hey guys... new stupid question...If i do a SAS pending year... will i have two different bolt patterns on my truck? My GF's lil brother (building a mud truck with him) offered me his 70% tread Super swamper 35 inchers for....$50!! so I am planing on running those which hopefully means about 6 inches of lift..I want to do it all in the blocks and suspension not any body. Well any info would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to have to buy two sets of different wheels.. they are 35's on 16.5 wheels... Thanks guys'

Nowhere near as feasible as swapping the 22RE into the 4WD, and finding the proper tranny for it... Then you'll be riding dirty...
And "IFS eliminator" is a round about, red neck, look at me I'm a goof-ball that enjoys making up my own terms b/c it's not like there are enough already regarding IFS swaps, way of saying it's got a solid axle swap.
PS, you're gonna HATE that 22RE... Nowhere NEAR the brute HP you need to turn over big floating meats for the swamps of FL.
