Ok I need some help and i dont know where to begin or what to do next.

I bought a 1990 Toyota Pickup 4x4 22-re Ext Cab with a A/T transmission.

The PO was unsure of what was actually wrong with the truck. I was unable to get it to crank but it did turnover so i figured wth and shelled out the 250$ he wanted.

I had to replace the gas tank and fuel pump as the were completely full of rust...BINGO, runs good.

But only runs in 2nd gear when its put in drive. All other gears work fine like they are supposed to but it will not come out of 2nd gear if it is in Drive...

Another Thing, speedo isnt working, at all.

Changed the fluid and filter and nothing changed. Fluid looked brand new, and filter was ok, only a lil dirty. No metal shavings or other things in pan.

I ran the jumper wire across and got a "OK" the light never stopped blinking, so now im stuck at what to do next.

The speedo is a cable one, not the electronic one...

Please help.

Ok so i found out why the speedo wasnt working..

I removed the dash and the speedo cable was sitting their visible, i jacked up the rear end, cranked the truck up and put it in gear and pushed the gas pedal...

Cable wasnt moving, so i turned the truck off and got under the truck and found out where the speedo cable was attached and unscrewed it and sure nuf, it was broken, after the lil pin that goes in the trans, there are wires wrapped around it broken off.

So that is one problem down would that have any effect on the reason it is not shifting into third?

I kinda have the same prob trying to figure it out, sometime the truck dosent want to go into overdrive and sometime it comes out of overdrive on the freeway kind of scary when you are crusin at 75. But mine is a 95 v6. Good luck

Still no luck, it just wont go past 2nd gear when its in drive...

ok so after i took the entire throttle body off and cleaned it really good, i put everything back together and i was able to retrieve the code 63 from the O/D light. however once i pulled the neg off the battery for about 15 minutes the code is gone.

what caused me to get the code, and why is it not coming back?

the code would explain my problems but why isnt the code popping back up?
