1990 4runner v6 distributor problem? Cranks but wont start.
The other morning it started up no problem. Started to role out of the driveway and it died. Tried to crank again, but wouldn't start.
I took it to a shop and after they looked at it for a couple of hours they told me they would want to replace the distributor. According to them they got spark to the plugs. The cap and rotor were pretty worn out too. They ended up measuring the pick up coil resistance. First test gave a 236-240 ohms reading. The second was 0.5 - 0.7 ohms. Specs for this are 130-210 ohms according to them.
That led them to the conclusion of a failed distributor.
Not wanting to pay them the additional money, I decided to do it myself. After replacing the worn cap and rotor and the new distributor I still had the same symptoms. Cranks, but wont start.
Gonna recheck spark, timing, fuel pump function. If i can pick up an ohm meter, i was gonna try and measure some of the resistance levels in the ignition system too.
Any suggestions on where to check and see if fuel is being delivered properly?
thanks in advance.

If you are getting spark, it should fire. Pull each pug and leave attached to the wire. Have someone crank the motor in short bursts to make sure they are firing. If they are, the next thing I would check is fuel delivery. You should be able to smell it after checking all the plugs. If not, I would check your fuel pump. Good luck.

I second the fuel pump.
Turn the key to the 'run' position go to the rear of the rig and listen for the fuel pump. You should hear a high pitch whining sound. If you don't hear it, check the pump relay and pump. If the relay is good, you most likely need a pump

Make sure you got these three things.
Spark - Make sure you are getting good spark at the plugs
Gas - Fuel pump working?
Compression - Make sure your timing belt has not snapped
