check downey.... but 4" lift for 500 bucks may be tough. you can get 1.5-2 by doing longer shackles and Tbar twist.

the 4x4 leafs wont give you much of any lift you would be better off going with the downey HD shackles.
before you buy new arms from downey, check ebay/craigslist. race-dezert.com and dezertrangers.com to see if you can snag a set of used fabtech upper arms or you might get lucky and find someone selling a whole kit.

4" suspension lift on a 2wd for 500 ain't gonna happen, unless you find used parts

Quickest way to get there would be Obsessed Motorsports 3" lift spindles (http://obsessedmotorsports.com/Toyot...d_spindle.html) and 4Crawler BJ spacers (http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...ntSpacer.shtml) up front for about 4.5" lift (dial in less lift by relaxing the bars and add stiffer shocks), then have the rear springs "top mounted" on the axle (should net about 3.5-4" lift)... and maybe longer shackles if necessary.

Net cost- about 800-950.

Aftermarket upper arms and torsion bars are all you need. Cheap and perform decent.

Care to list aftermarket upper arm vendors?

Fabtech (discontinued)
Rancho (discontinued)
Downey (likes to bundle parts even though they reluctantly will sell them separate)
Total Chaos (whole suspension option)
4Crawler or SDORI BJ spacers?
?

And how would aftermarket uppers and torsion bars, if that's all that is needed... help lift the rear?

ok so my plan is 4x4 stock leafs in the rear, and up front downey upper control arms and torsion bars, with skyjacker shocks both front and rear any problems with this? and how would i top mount the leafs on the axle?

the 4x4 leafs aren't really going to do anything. they have one leaf more then the 2wd packs and from the research i have done its seems like they are there to mainly control the axle wrap that the spring over axle setups get. if all you want is a few inches of lift then get some longer shackles like the downey HD ones. they give me 2'' of lift when i had them on my truck so if you go with a 4'' lift on the front the truck will sit level. if thats not enough lift then look at a add a leaf.

if you want to convert it to a spring over axle setup you will need to but new spring perches and have them welded on. then you will also need new U bolts and plates.

no, I didn't.
perhaps you misread my reply.
and maybe you should quote the post I replied to?

And I'm not particulary sure of the reason you'd argue.

For the rear, your better off finding a decent 4WD Rear end with the perches on the top already, and the pinion angle already setup.

The problem with that is 4wd is 6 lug and 2wd is 5 lug... unless you're driving one of the motorhomes and then the 5 lug patterns are different from 2wd or motorhome.

Hey, it's just an easier fix.
It's really up to him, buying new perches and cutting off his is a task in itself.

nevermind. you missed the point. and you don't have to cut off the perch to install a new one on the other side of the axle housing.

didnt misread anything, the reason id "argue" is because on racedezert, dezertrangers, and even C.L. used upper arms come up for sale quit frequently and sell for about $100. then if he were to pick up a set of new torsions bars for $150 he is at $250 for the 4'' of lift he is after. then if he does a lift shackle the truck will sit level and he is well under $500 mark he set. i didnt read anywhere in his post where he said he had to have new parts. the used stuff is just as good and usually 1/2 the price.

okay... let's say you're right: fabtech "performance lift" upper control arms for $100, a pair of torsion bars for $150... that's $250 so far... and then add the cost of shocks: about $100... so $350 for 3.5" lift. ...3.5" is the Fabtech lift without a t-bar crank (I know that: I own and installed one- bought for 400, never installed, and didn't get 4" from the kit with new uppers, torsion bars and add-a-leafs from the kit.) ... and as far as I can recall even Rancho's 2wd lift was 3.5" max.... limited to that because the struts from the frame to the lower control arm adversely affect suspension alignment when lifted above that amount- any higher and the lower control arms are pulled too far forward to allow acceptable alignment angles. So Downey made "2WD Pro-Desert Strut Frame" (you'll have to scroll down to find what I'm talking about) kit.

So we're still 1/2" short of 4" and into it for a minimum of $350 and still haven't lifted the rear yet... and the cheapest option: extended shackles, will only get about 1.5" total lift for about $70, leaving us at $420 spent, .5" short of 4" up front and 2.5" short in the rear so... another $75 for add-a-leafs and we're now at about 3.5" total up front, 3.5" in the rear, but still .5" short of 4" total lift and now spent $495.

And I was lucky enough to find a complete, un-installed, Fabtech Performance lift kit for $400... and got 3.5" lift... but also had to add $70 extended shackles to lift the rear to match the front.... So yeah, I'm pessimistic that 4" for $500 is possible. I got a killer / to-die-for deal on the lift kit parts you recommend but not the 4" lift you claim is possible out of them.

So if i go out into my shop, and look at one of the 3 sets of Toyota solid axles, i'll find that all of them have a magical spring perch on both the bottom AND top?

If he flips the axle upside down, then the filler hole is also upside down as well as the brake system, if that's what your implying.

I know what you're saying about the lug patterns. I was joking about that, it would be pretty dorky to have unmatching lug patterns..
