1989 4Runner Holley Projection, MSD, clicky starter
I have an 89 4Runner with a 350 conversion, Holley Projection 4D, and MSD ignition. On two occasions I have attempted to start the vehicle and all I get is a clicking sound from the same area where the Holley computer is mounted (glove box). There is no attempt to start, and I don't really hear anything coming from the starter. The volt meter on the dash reads 12 volts, but I still replaced the battery the first time it happened, but because it was old and needed to be replaced anyway. I replaced it with a 1000cca battery. Then no problem for a couple of weeks...
Yesterday I cranked the truck and it started right up, drove a mile or so to a gas station, then when I tried to re-start it I got nothing but the clicking sound. My initial thought was a bad relay or starter solenoid. The only problem with that theory is that a guy offered me a jump start and I thought "why not" even though I did not expect it to work. But it did. Now I am confused.
This is a fairly common problem on Samurai's but I searched this forum and could not find anything that applied to me. Any ideas?
