I've got a 1988 runner that won't start Wendy's it's cold, it'll fire on starting fluid and will start up when it's cold. It has a code 51 which is kind of throwing me off; oh and the tps was just adjust, but to no avail at fixing the problem. Any idears?

Check your cold start injector and the cold start injector switch. The switch is located on the back side of your engine. If you have a 22R or 22RE I think it sits horizontal, if it's a 3VZ-E is sits vertical. It's on the water bypass. Check it with a multimeter per the FSM:

Pulling the injector is simple, just be sure to put a new gasket on. I had to make my own out of a sheet of material. Just soak the lower half of the injector in gasoline overnight then lightly clean it and it should be good.

The switch and the injector were swapped to see if that was the issue, still not the problem

You don't mention what engine, or transmission...

Start with eliminating the code.

Double check the adjustment and TPS Ohm readings, then inspect at the ECM to verify the wires from the TB to ECM are good.

I know it sounds corny but my sons 1990 3.0 V6 was having the same issue and we put new plugs, new wires, K&N Filter, cleaned throttle body, cleaned battery terminals, etc..so I went with the Seafoam treatment in the gas tank, poured in the whole can and it runs smooth now, doesnt even need warming up in the mornings. Sounds too simple to be true, but it worked for him. Maybe give it a try.

Mmm if the cold start injector isn't functional due to circuit issues no amount of kerosene is going to solve it

So once you get the idle circuit figured out you need to go back and actually do the tests for the coldstart system. Throwing parts at it doesn't have a good result, as you may have noticed, particularly when there are wiring problems

From my experince with the 22re, I have never had the Injector to fail but it has been the Cold Start Injector Time Switch located near/under the Throttle Body. The Haynes Manual has a good resistance check for it. I was able to fix one Time Switch just by pulliing it out and getting all of the hard water build up off it with a good cleaning.

Not saying it couldnt be the injector but my experience leans towards the Timing Switch.
