1988 4Runner Brake Booster Upgrade Issues
So here's where I'm at...
Purchased my Runner September of last year. Spent 3 months working through some issues for inspection here in PA. Finally got her on the road but always had a soft brake. Pedal would fall about half way then get solid. Despite multiple bleeds on all wheels and LSPV.
So I just drove her the way she was until just last week when my booster gave up the ghost. Hissing and super hard pedal constantly. So I ordered a reman booster and master (figured I'd kill two birds with one stone) for an 88' V6 thinking I'd bolt them on and go.
Get the parts and realized I didn't have the correct fluid container ($210 for just the damn container from Toyota! WTF!?) for a V6. D'oh!! So I decided I'd just rip a master off a 90' V6 from my local yard.
Went to put everything together tonight and found the booster rod is short about a 1/4 to 3/8 an inch. Even when adjusted the whole way out past the threads inside the cab. Am I missing something? So frustrated right now!
Any help dearly appreciated!

Figured it!
Okay so I found that there was a quarter inch plate spacer that I could remove from behind the original 22RE booster I had. I removed that and had enough room to adjust my brake sensor forward to meet the push plate on the brake pedal! Pedal is still forward further than it was originally but brakes work phenomenally and I think everything should now be good.
Brake pedal is now in line with gas pedal but I don't think that is anything out of the ordinary. Anyone else have any experience that with this? Correct placement? Something still wrong?
Also to answer your question @wyoming9 I purchased the booster from PEPBOYS in Lancaster on Fruitville Pike. Everything on the box and the fitment of everything else seems to say that it's the correct booster. I think that it just needed the plate removed and the brake sensor adjusted as I did. Sound correct?

Did your pedal height change after removing spacer? I'm concerned that the reman may still have been incorrect. Everything seems to be working fine though. Brakes have good power and all bolts fit right up. Any thoughts?
