1988 4runner 3.0 liter, no power to fuel pump

hello, I have an 88 runner 3.0 liter, i have what appears to be no power to fuel pump and fuel gauge is not marking any gas when key is inserted and turned to on position. although just poured 4 gallons into tank. truck will start if starting fluid is introduced into air intake throttle body, but no fuel is being pumped from tank. truck has been sitting for two years.

First you need to check for voltage at the pump. If there is, then tear the pump out and see what's going on. If there isn't, then the problem is somewhere else in the circuit. Lot's of places to look for that. Grab a manual and get busy.

BTW fuel gauge and fuel pump are not related.

Uh, before you pull out the tank and fuel pump (the tank comes out to access the fuel pump), I would try jumpering B+ to FP on the diagnostic connector. FP is direct to the pump; B+ is 12v with key-on. I can hear my pump standing at the connector. If the pump doesn't run, use your multimeter to check that B+ does, indeed, have 12v. If it does, use the ohmmeter to check FP to ground. If open, could be bad pump or broken wire; check the wiring first. If very low resistance, pump COULD be good, but more likely bad pump or shorted wire. Again, visually inspect the wiring.

If the pump runs with jumpering, leave the pump alone! You have a problem in the COR VAF circuit.

The diagnostic connectors are in weird locations in the older trucks; here's the 411: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...shtml#FuelPump

Thank you, for your information. I replaced the fuel pump, it was totally rusted out. replaced fuel filter and had the fuel tank boiled out and relined. Truck fired right up after all the work.
