1988 22re timing issues
I've searched the archives and couldn't quite find an answer to this problem. I've got an '88 pickup w/ 22re that I recently replaced the head gasket and re-worked the head on. The truck always seemed to be a bit anemic when it came to power, even after re-building the head.
The problem I ran into when trying to time it was that I could not get it to idle down like it should after crossing the 2 connectors in the diagnostic terminal. Because of this, I was unable to use a timing lite and just put it in time by ear. I thought I read somewhere on the forum here about the TPS being out of adjustment and causing a similar problem when timing. I've got to run by the autoparts store sometime this week to replace my old feeler gauge so I can check out the TPS, but is there anything else I should be thinking about that could be the culprit?
Thanks,
justin

when putting the jumper in was the check engine light coming on and flashing? if not that's your problem. It can be a little tricky to get the jumper in and working.
