Exclamation 1987 2WD Toyota pickup not running (carb?)

I have a 2WD Toyota pickup long bed with a 2.4 22R

About a month ago when I start it it runs very very rich when it idles, and not that bad when driving, but I recently found out that if I let it warm up from driving for about 5-7 mins and turn it off for like 2-4 it starts and runs fine. It is a weird problem and my mechanic said it might be my carb but he's not sure (cost me $160 to fix nothing). As of today it started earlier but barely and with what sounded like 1-2 really bad misfires so I couldn't drive it. Now it won't start at all and I just put $45 of gas in it yesterday. I need ideas to try I really need this truck fixed. (The fuel bowl has gas in it btw) if I need to I can post a video of it running rich on YouTube. Just let me know any more information is needed!!!

Edit: when it runs rich it emits black smoke, and stalls when it idles mostly at stops but not always (that's why I couldn't really drive it)

Sounds like your float is sticking. It may be indeed time for a carb rebuild. The ethanol in our gas now is murder on carbs. It erodes the brass and hardens the rubber.

Sounds like you need a mechanic thats older than your vehicle Just exactly what did he do for your 160$? poke it with a stick and see if it attacked him..

Engine will not start or hard to start (cranks ok): Carburetor problems: choke operating, flooding, needle valve sticking or clogged, vacuum line disconnected or damaged, fuel cut solenoid valve not open. See page FU-4.

Rough idle or stalls: Carburetor problems: Idle speed incorrect, Slow jet clogged, Idle mixture incorrect, Fuel cut valve not open, Fast idle speed setting incorrect(cold engine), Choke system faulty, Secondary throttle valve not closed. See page FU-3
Notice there are two items similar in both trouble shooting check lists. Choke (EC-61thru65, PDF page 193-197) and fuel cut solenoid valve(EC-68, PDF page 200). Sounds like a good place to start

PS of course inspect the vacuum lines for leaks, plugage and kinks.

Thank you I will be sure to look at this tomorrow. And at first I thought it was a vacum leak but the fact that it can go away turned me away. But it wouldn't hurt to double check. Great advice bout my mechanic btw xP

ALSO: One side of the carb is completely blackened from I'm guessing smoke? I don't know if that helps
