1987 22r pickup build and rebuild

I recently purchased a 1987 22r 4x4 pickup. Not too bad with 318k except for the two quarts of oil every 200 miles. I was wheeling last weekend and on my way home the trans locked up @ 70mph, I lost 1st 4th and 5th gear (kinda odd) so I limped it back home and noticed it was smoking like crazy so now I've decided to go all out.

I pulled the 22re motor and trans out of my parts truck with 120k something miles (keeping it carbed). I put a heavy duty timing chain set in. new water and oil pump. Re gasketing the engine to cure any possible oil leaks. Bought a new clutch, why not while its all apart. Replaced pilot and throwout bearing. Slowly deleting the emissions equipment, making my own block offs. Got rid of the mechanical fuel pump and going to a electric pump with a regulator. So its just about ready to go in the truck.

Near future plans are: 32/36 carb (looking for an adapter to retain factory air filter housing), Got some chev 63s laying in my shop (going to attempt to make my own hangers), Working on deal with a local junkyard for a straight axle out of an 84 pickup, Found a decent deal on the internet for a every thing you need sas swap kit for $1300. Getting rid of the ifs after last weekends experience of almost rolling it lol. O yes needs painted but I want your guys opinion, I'm thinking camo with a blaze orang YOTA on the tailgate or just goin flat black just for the cost sake and not to mention every time you get a scratch you just hit with the rattle can.

My goal is to have a good safe dd while being able to have fun with on the weekends, I'm kinda skeptical on how much lift the sas will give me because I would like to go no bigger than 32in tires and I would also like to retain factory gears (cruises down the highway at a decent rpm). But yep thats about it, this is how she sits now. First pic is what it looked like when I first bought it.

why not keep it fuel injected and just put the efi head and intake on the parts truck's block? not that difficult. be sure and get the block and head decked, and chase the head bolt threads in the block. 32's are gonna look a little small on a sas i think . good luck with the build. i've been following a few of your threads.

The truck it's going in is carbed. I would do it but I like the simplicity of a carbd no emissions set up. The SAS kit I found was featured with 2in lift springs, I was originally thinking two in of lift would look good with 32s I guess I'll find out lol. And thanks!

Okay so I'm removing all my vac lines and all I want for vaccum is brakes and adv dist. Can I just cap all the ports on the carb? Also how do I run a return line with my electric fuel pump? Or do I just get rid of it? Really need help!
