1986 Blown Head Gasket, now what to ask for it?!
I got an 86 4 cyl. Runner I'm parting with, I put up an add locally for the thing and then had to pull it off 'cause I didn't have enough time and tools to get the $300 stereo out -- it's dead about 30 miles from my tools and I won't have a chance to get at the stereo for another couple of weeks. It's got a nice rear add on bumper and hitch but aside from that there's no mods. I got ALOT of responses immediately from a craigslist add just a half hour after the post. I had it up for 150 but seems like I low balled it. You're in my shoes and you don't have another car -- conditions are a blown head gasket, average toyota disease rust on the frame, but I've got people asking to buy it based on four body photos. Eh what to do? The listing is deleted and I won't repost locally for another two weeks when I can get the stereo out. Better than a buck fifty would be nice. (This is a general post about pricing strategies, seems relevant to this forum, not a for sale post here.) Anyhow thanks.

Put it up for $500 and see if you get any takers..... or you could fix the blown head gasket yourself for a couple hundred bucks and get alot more when you sell it.

Here's a link of photos. Whaddya think, man? Worth hanging onto? How much/best route to have the head gasket replaced (or new engine)?

you should be able to have the hg done for under 1k including the head work (valves etc) at the most. i regret letting my 86 go, 20/20 hindsight i guess.

Fix It.
This is a pretty easy fix. You only have one head to deal with. Find a freind that is wrench educated and if you start in the morning you'll be done by that evening. You have alot of help from this forum if you were to get stuck along the way, and then you can probably drive that 22r until it rusts through the frame.
If you do decide to sell it then say $750 OBO, and those cheap craigslist bastards won't have a problem with talking you down to $400 or so.
I also agree not to part it out. The body seems pretty straight for that.
