1986 22re shuts off
I have a 1986 pickup with 22re. While driving the truck will stop running, but starts right back up when I pull off the road. In fact when it quits I can put it in neutral and when the lights come on on the dash I can put it back in overdrive let out on the clutch and it fires back up.I have checked for loose connections and bad wires. Could it be fuel related? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like a fuel pump getting weak or a clogged injector. Do you run your tank on empty alot? That will kill a fuel pump. Still could be several other things. When was the last good tune up?

Are you saying that, when the engine quits, all the lights on the dash also go off, and then when they come back on you can start it again? Do the headlights go out at the same time? Does your radio lose its presets?
If the above are true, it sounds like a bad battery or alternator connection that is simply shutting down all electrical power to the vehicle. I've had this happen on other vehicles when the battery cable was corroded and intermittent.
You might also want to check the connections associated with the EFI relay. That provides power to the ECU which controls ignition and fuel injection.
Try starting it and letting it idle, and then wiggle wires under the hood and under the dash and see if something makes it quit. Just keep hands and clothing away from the belts.
