18mm+ wrench for fuel filter?!!? 93 22re

So I finally got the filter bolts off, but the top filter nut (the one next to the body of the filter) is some crazy huge size, bigger than 18mm, which is the biggest I've got. The bottom one is different, and I got the banjo bolt loosened on it. IS that the original filter size or is this some weird thing the previous owner put on there? Any idea what size it would be?

This sucks. I'm pissed.

it looks like it's probably a 19mm. I guess I'll head to the store tomorrow.

When your at the parts store get a few extra crush washers. Unless you bought it OEM they probably gave you aluminum ones that are painted to look like copper. You really want copper and or brass. And dont bolt the filter back up untill you know its does not leak. I fought mine for like an hour. Gas in the eyes, yea..... not fun.

I got a Wix filter, so I hope they're real copper, though I opened it up and it said "China". I had thought all Wix stuff was made in the US. Looking around tonight I found a 3/4 in wrench so maybe that'll work instead of the 19mm.

OEM are aluminum. I thought the copper ones were just for brakes.

Why would want copper or brass?

19 mm / 25.4 = 0.748 or 3/4

when in doubt, use a cresent wrench. Everyone should have a few of those in their tool box!

man I tried a crescent, and a pair of pliers...it's not in such an easy-to-grip kind of a place and torqued pretty good.

Just in case anyone is interested, I still don't know what the size was, it is the original toyota filter, and a pair of vise grips works nicely in this situation.
