temp gage semi broke

my temp guage will be on then just fall abck down to the rest post. i dunno if there is a sensor to check or is there is a way to see if its the guage. any ideas?

The Factory Service Manual has test procedures for tboth the gauge and the sender. Might check that the wire is plugged securely into the sender, I had a problem with my oil pressure gauge dropping to 0 every now and then and it was a bad connector on the sender. I rebent the metal inside the connector shell to make it fit tighter and it has been fine since.

i have the haynes manual.. is that the one that has it? where is the sender located?

There's a couple temp senders on the engine. Check each one's connector. There are at least 3 thermo sender/sensors on my 85 22re.
