Stalling after replacing valve cover gasket ???
Discovered the source of an oil leak at the rear of my valve cover. Replaced gasket and seals, leak gone. Good.
Started truck and now it idles so slow it stalls. I'm guessing (definitely) that the throttle cable is not set correctly now that I removed and re-installed its bracket at the rear of the valve cover. Guessing for sure since it's the only carburetor related device touched during the gasket replacement. Ran out of sunlight and thought of posting here. Your ideas and advice is very much appreciated. Thanks!

It could be a vacuum leak at one of the hoses that attaches to the air cleaner housing. I have forgot to re-attach mine a few times and it will basically chug a few times after it starts and then stall. The throttle cable should only have an effect on the idle speed if it is too tight, meaning the idle would be too fast.

Or it could be that you have a little more slack in your trottle cable now, because of moving the bracket. You have a phillips head screw on the back side of your carb that ou can adjust to raise the idle some. Will it run if you give it a little gas? And like the rest said, check the vacuum hoses between the carb and the valve cover. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. You are all correct. Vacuum hose tucked away so nicely it didn't get installed on the white nipple (breather) under the air cleaner. AND I did notice when I removed the first bolt on the throttle cable bracket that it was under tension. Not nearly as much when when I re-installed it. It was left with not enough "throw" to set the choke plate. Still confirming that but it appears to be the case. Thanks again!
Did I mention that I am a knuckle dragging mouth breather?

P.S...Yes. The half moon seal is holding up. At least I feel/see no 'earl' on my mitt when I look for it.
