Solid fan and remove fan clutch??

Anyone remove the fan clutch and replace it with something solid? My fan clutch has been siezed up for a few years, and the truck has definitely not run warm:-) Just noticed that the shaft is off kilter and is probably a little hard on the water pump. I have a spare fan clutch, but would prefer something a little more reliable. I would prefer the fan running all the time than having a fan clutch die at just the wrong time.

if your fan is stuck on you have been losing alot of power for a while. id just replace it. you can get a toyota oem one for 100 bux online. its not worth it for an aftermarket. they dont last, (at least in my experience)

I wouldn't run it without the clutch, the 22R/RE is already underpowered enough. You'll get better mileage and acceleration with a new fan clutch and it won't be quite as noisey. Although, your A/C would probably work better at an idle and in slow traffic without it! ----------Hans

I hadn't noticed the power loss, but I'm sure its there. Unfortunately, my truck doesn't have a/c. I bought the thing in 1985, and was young and stupid, and didn't look forward to the day when I would value cool air on a hot day. Mostly, I drive the beast when it's not hot, so I guess the constant fan is not needed so much.

You could always ditch the fan and clutch all together and go electric. There's alot of after market cooler kits out there.

Might go electric someday, but I'm in no rush. I would prefer to go as reliable as possible, although with a 22re, everything is electric anyway. Ordinarily I would think no electric = no anything, although I once was able to drive my truck about 250 miles in a blizzard with a dead alternator and dying battery (never shut the truck off when I filled with gas). I was afraid that I might have all sorts of problems, but the thing kept going. My wife has a Taurus, so I might steal that fan someday.

Yikes! I haven't been hot enough to fork over that kind of loot for a/c. For now, I'll just roll down my windows. Last year, I picked up a complete toy a/c setup, but I haven't put it in yet.
