Service manual

I found a shop repair manual for a 1983 or 1985 Toyota pick up on my local classified site, I own an 1984 toyota sr5 pick up, I was wondering how different these are from a 1984 Toyota shop manual, will most of it be similar or should I locate a 1984 shop repair manual?

Thanks

Garrett, well for one thing, the body style changed from 1983 to 1984...so if it's an 83 factory service manual, then I'd imagine there will be quite a few differences. Also, the 1985 manual probably introduces a lot of EFI sections that will not apply to your 1984 truck. There will certainly be a lot of common area between all the years, but it would be best to have the correct FSM for your year. Another option is to find a PDF version online.

It would be okay for motor and axle information but not much else as the trucks changed quite a bit in those years. I have an 85 FSM and it does show the EFI in it. it would still be a great manual to have if you thought of ever getting an earlier truck.

Depending on price I'd do the '85. The the EFI is a section but it has a carb section too. Shoot I'd give you an e-copy of '85 if you were local. I originally had a hard copy of '86 same year as my rig. Had search ebay which had copies but bids quickly shot price up. Found a hard copy on used book site for $26 with shipping. Movers liberated my copy when we went overseas along with some tools. So now I've got '85; '88, and '92. I printed '85 and use it most. But my rig has bits and pieces from several years.
