My drivers floorboard is no longer there. Rusted through. I don't weld and would cost 200to get someone to weld it. I live on soc sec so that's alot for me. Could I use fiberglass like for body work? Would it last? I can do fiberglass myself and seems like it would work. What do you guys think? Thanks

As long as the Fiberglass is legal if New York Has a Safety Inspection .

Not Sure where the New York came from!!!

You need something to hold the Fiberglass in place while it cures .

I have used the Fiberglas Resin with the Mat quite a few times over the years .

I was told it was not legal here in Pa at a different then normal inspection station .

It needed to be metal welded in for me no problem I just have not had time to get it done.

Do you have an electric power drill? If so you can get a rivet kit ($20 for tool and some rivets) and a 1/4" drill bit (get a couple). You should cut out the rust until you get to non rusted metal. Cut a piece of metal bigger than your hole and make drill holes through it and your floor board. Rivet the metal in place. I'd want the rivets evenly spaced about every 1" or 1-1/2". Paint both sides of the area with anti rust paint.


You can look around for sources for free metal such as the sides of appliances or a door or hood from a wrecked car. I usually cut with a grinder and cutting wheel. (Grinder $19 from Harbor Freight) or use hand metal snips. I'm probably one of the biggest proponents of fiberglass on here but for structural work I'd want to use steel. I understand that some states will flunk your inspection if your vehicle is too rusty and they see Bondo or fiberglass in a structural area.

Thanks guys. I have almost every tool u can want so no problem there and I now live in Georgia so no inspection. I will see about the free metal and maybe put the fiber glass around it to look smooth. I didn't think the floor was that structural important. I know right where a appliance repair shop is. Metal sheet is also hard to find, never thought about appliance or old hood. Excellent ideas. Thanks so much

Of course, it was'nt me, but back in the day, I heard that some guys used to pilfer road signs from remote areas to repair rusted floor boards.

^^LOL, I bought an old Mustang and was going to replace the carpet in it and sure enough it had an old Stop sign as a patch panel in it. I replaced it with regular metal as I figured it would be me that would get the blame for the sign.
