priming the oil pump

Is there a way on the 22r-e engine to prime the oil system before starting. The engine has set a couple years without being cranked and i was wondering if there was a way to prime it before i tried to start. Also wondering if the engine will work for my application. I asked this in another post but didnt get a response. I have a 1985 4x4 pickup sr5 came with the 22r/carborated. What im wanting to do is replace it with a 22R-E I have kept. What I need to know is will the intake and exhaust bolt up to the head and things i need to look for thanks.

As far I know there is no way to prime one that is already installed. Most people who install new ones fill them with Vaseline simply as a lubricant till the oil gets there. But I'm sure you don't want to go to that much trouble. Nor do I believe it is necessary.
As far as the 22RE question. I don't Know. Sorry.

I would for sure fill the pump with a lighter lithium grease or assembly gel. Its not a good idea to start that enging without priming it complety with oil. I would throw the pan on and throw a oil pressure guage on the ops port and turn that crank over untill you built pressure in the system to ensure you dont have a dry start.

Yea its up to you on what you want to do to start the motor. If its full of oil i'd try and start it.... why not? But if you want to be on the real safe side yea sure take it off and lube some oil or assembly lube in there and it will be fine.... As for the your other question a 22r head and a 22re are one in the same and it is totally possible to swap a 22r carb to a 22re EFI the head and block and everything is the same. you just have to get a 22re intake

To remove the oil pump all you need to do is remove the clutch fan, break the crank pulley loose and remove the crank pulley. Remove 6 bolts and the oil pump slides off.

Why not pull the injector connectors off, pull off the valve cover and pour oil over the rocker and valve assembly, pull the spark plugs and then crank the motor until you get oil pressure..

plug everything back in and start it up.
