As far I know there is no way to prime one that is already installed. Most people who install new ones fill them with Vaseline simply as a lubricant till the oil gets there. But I'm sure you don't want to go to that much trouble. Nor do I believe it is necessary.
As far as the 22RE question. I don't Know. Sorry.

I would for sure fill the pump with a lighter lithium grease or assembly gel. Its not a good idea to start that enging without priming it complety with oil. I would throw the pan on and throw a oil pressure guage on the ops port and turn that crank over untill you built pressure in the system to ensure you dont have a dry start.

Yea its up to you on what you want to do to start the motor. If its full of oil i'd try and start it.... why not? But if you want to be on the real safe side yea sure take it off and lube some oil or assembly lube in there and it will be fine.... As for the your other question a 22r head and a 22re are one in the same and it is totally possible to swap a 22r carb to a 22re EFI the head and block and everything is the same. you just have to get a 22re intake

you want to be on the real safe side yea sure take it off and lube some oil or assembly lube in there and it will be fine...
how?....... you would have to pull the radiator, water pump, timing cover, timing chain, just to get to it |

If your priming the oil pump the engine is normally gunna be out of the truck anyways.

To remove the oil pump all you need to do is remove the clutch fan, break the crank pulley loose and remove the crank pulley. Remove 6 bolts and the oil pump slides off.
