Yes I am almost afraid to build it. So the build will be slow ($$$). And mild. Small OME, 33's, Detroit softlocker rear and trutrac up front. 4:88's, sliders, winch front and receiver hitch winch and new bumper rear. Marlin 1200# clutch. NWOR header, flamethrower injectors, straight throttle body. ect.

BTW does anyone know if the supra AFM that was plug and play on my 93 is the same on my 85?

Just checked for engine codes. Just1 flash every 4-5 seconds. I think that means its all good.

The AFM part number is the same from 86-92 as I just went thru and AFM issue. I would bet 93 has the same part number as the earlier models. If it is the same, it would work.

All ones is a good thing on the code check.

So changed the fuel filter and it smoothed out on idle significantly. I also took the time to remount filter relocation on to the firewall using the AC line mounting bolt. The idle went from 600 ish to about 700. I then bumped it up to 800rpms and she purrs like a kitten. I then check the antifreeze and saw small spots of oil. . But at 230k it's time to think about the motor anyways. Time to take my old long block apart and have the crank checked, bore swirled and then order parts from engnbldr. Will a block from a 93 fit an 85? I think so but can't remember. Figured I will do his master rebuild kit with a new head and oversized valves. 268 cam. Hell I might see how much he wants to put one together and then do a core exchange. That's it for now

So the Runner still has the OEM tape deck stereo. Kinda want to keep the retro look but want to be able. To plug my iPhone in. Any suggestions?

Great find! I love the stock wheels. Sounds like a good build plan. I took the top off my 86 every summer and it never leaked so that's not really a concern.

I will check them out AZkid thanks Well it's a head gasket. Spots of oil in the coolant and compression test confirmed. 155, 120, 125, 150. So it looks as though I have my first need to do item on the runner. Can't really complain for a rig with 230k on it. I just love looking out in the driveway and seeing a solid axle again. I am debating on building a motor myself or just buying a rebuilt one. About the same cost if you can find a good motor builder. Does engnbldr sell rebuilds. I guess I will have to call him tomorrow. On the bright side I pulled the carpet up I the cargo area and it looks new underneath. I do want to add some cargo tie downs. What does everybody like for looks and function. Going to want them available with the carpet in as well Thanks all

Looking good! Sorry about the HG, ENGBLDR does sell rebuild kits. I did a HG a couple times with my old 22RE's and its a fun little job. I HIGHLY reccommend the steel back chain guides. It's possible that the 230K chain is stretched and wore through the timing cover. If it did, it will either need to be welded or replaced.

I have done timing chains and HG's before. But would rather just R&R the long block if I can. It's just easier and I can easily R&R a motor in under a day.

It will work. The 84 and older is the different block and the one you will want to stay away from. It is in great condition. I think in the junk yard parts thread someone showed some great tie downs. No suggestions on stereos. Your local third grader can do a better job of wiring in a stereo then I could, lol

Sweet find on the 4runner, it looks like it's in great shape! For a bikini top, they usually go for around $200....I think Wab Fab has them on sell for $165. Or you can pick one up for an FJ40 and make a few minor mods and have one for less than $100.

Hey thanks I saw wabfab had them. I have to rebuild the motor first. Going to do a complete rebuild. Using engnbldr parts and a fresh head. Should he able to drive it forever after that. After that's taken care of the top time. But we are expecting our first kid at the end of April so it might be a case of DIY. I do like to screw up my own stuff any chance I get. But seriously I am very DIY. And with a kid on the way every penny counts.

Probably not on the top of the list any more, but you can get a cassette adapter to plug your phone into. They seem to work pretty well. But aftermarket stereos aren't too hard to put in either, only took me about an hour I think, and I had to rewire one of the speakers too. I have seen those adapters but seem to have forgotten about them so thanks. I talked to engnbldr on Monday and I am going with a full rebuild. I just need to get my 93 sold to pay for it.
New head and cam
Master rebuild kit.
Also going to try and get a marlin 1200# clutch at the same time

Also have the supra AFM and a straight TB and upper plenum from my spare 93 motor. Going to rebuild that block so I'm not sitting with a torn apart rig

So I straightened out my rear bumper today. Looks better but still need a new one.
Also pulled that pos chrome strip that has done a great job of traping debris and creating rust on my rear passenger side wheel well. Ground the rust away mostly. Then gave it a touch on rustolium white to seal it. Feeling like I was making progress I pulled my valve cover to see if my timing chain guide was still in tacked. It is. By now I'm feeling pretty froggy and I decide to put my supra AFM on. Get it all tightened up and start her up moment on awesome and the the idle dropped to 300-400 rpms from 850-900. Ideas??? Does the ecu have to learn it? I don't know it was plug and play on my 93. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
