new carpet from rockauto
has anyone had any experience with the carpet that rock auto sells for the 1st gen 4runner or 2nd Gen pickup? Seems like a good price. Just wanna know if anyone has any insight to the quality of the material and if it fits like the factory carpeting. I've seen a couple posts with people asking the same thing but I haven't seen one with a answer.

I have not used rockauto but have tried other brands of carpets. From my experience, both brands were pressed to fit the floor pan. That is the great part but the rest of the job is a slow steady pace. The carpet is usually 2 inches wider all the way around and you have to do a lot of trimmimg and cut out bolt holes and the shifter area. I wish I could find direct replacement but have not found any yet.

thanks for the quick reply terry, as long as they look good in the end and are good quality what do we care? Do you happen to remember the name of the company?

Here is one of them, http://www.stockinteriors.com/ dont remember the other. I had the extra insulation added and it helps with noise and insulation. Still holding up after 3 or 4 years. Really happy with it. Replacing carpet is not hard but does take some patience in getting it fit right. I will say after I replaced my carpet, it made the rest of the interior look bad. That is when you get good with interior paint, lol.

I just ordered samples from stockinteriors for the rear cargo area. I have the brown tan interior and got 4 color samples. 8295,854,820,and 810. I like 854 the best. The quality seems good but without the mass backing ( add $$ ) it would be pretty thin on bottom. Mass Backing is a must I think and will add quality plus kill sounds.
Have them send you some samples and judge for yourself the quality.

Your could also get a generic rubber cargo mat for a truck from JC Whitney for around $40-50 and cut it to fit. Then install your carpet over it. That's going to be my plan. No carpet for the summer for when the tops off and still nonslip area for the dogs. I am getting some abs plastic cut out for the seat backs and tailgate carpet areas. That way I'm not worried about a little rain.

Haha no doubt just the rear cargo area which includes the inside hub covers and cover the rear seat back - 246.00 with mass backing...
For the whole enchilada front, back, and rear cargo - all mass backing in Buckskin Cut pile 404.00 includes shipping - ouch...
But a necessary evil for a perfectionist...

For the rear cargo area, I get mine from a carpet shop. I get a remnant piece and usually cost about $20. That is not for the wheel wells but it looks great and a lot less then the auto dealers.
