mustang/montero sport rear disc swap

Hey guys I'm workin on doing a rear disc swap on my 84 yota. I'm using 2003 Mitsubishi Montero sport 4wd rear rotors and 1998 mustang gt single piston calipers(they have a e-brake, was going to use 1990 trooper calipers but their a tight fit and i couldnt find a set that wasnt stove up). I'm making my own caliper bracket and brake lines. Also i Haven't decided on a proportional valve yet but my factory lspv is toast so it won't be used

This will be kind of a slow swap because I'm short on time and have to do some repairs on my axle too. But so far everything lines up perfectly. I'll let yall know how it goes and the final cost (should be under $200 US).

Update one side done, still a few snags to work out. Like a rotor that's not round and a couple bolts that are too long

Side note the caliper and braket get rotated 90º from were they are in the pic so the caliper is on top of the axle

That's pretty cool. Will you post some pics of the finished product? I will be interested to see the E brake hooked up.

Thanks!

Alright i finally got the other side done. But ran into a problem, the brackets i got won't work on a leaf sprung truck, forgot to measure twice I reckon. So that's gonna delay it a bit more

Also interested in e-brake as I looked at rusty troopers, too, and thought better not. Look forward to comparing this to other swaps.

New bracket, made from scrap 1/2" thick steel. Still needs some grinding. But it seems to clear everything like it should.

Size: 186.9 KB both sides re mounted may move them to the top or front after the axle gets put back under the truck.
Side note This swap would be a lot easier on a ifs width axle (shouldn't have any clearance issues)

I don't mean to sound stupid or like a newb. But what is the difference in a older solid axel rear axel, and a ifs rear axel. Shouldn't they be the same because all that changed is the front suspension not the rear?

The 86+ pickups and 4Runners used a 3" wider rear axle. That is why folks usually have 1.5" spacers on front axles when they do an SAS.

Ifs width axles have 5" between the spring perch and the back of the drums, sfa width axles have 3", the caliper sticks out about 4-4 1/2. So if I had a ifs width axle I could have just mounted it like I had it originally.
