Moon/Sun roof removal

Does anyone know how to remove the moon/sun roof on an 85 4 runner. Mine leaks and I don't quite know what to do about it. Help, anybody please.

not a good idea to call everyone on this forum ignorant. I am assuming this is a powered sunroof, open your sunroof and try cleaning out the drains in the corners. I'm not certain about your specific truck, but with most sunroof assemblies there are usually rubber tubes running from both front corners down through the A pillar. these will get plugged with pine needles/leaves and other gunk sometimes and collect water in the sunroof assembly only to slosh out when you take a corner. if you clean around the window seal and the sealing surface it will help too. if the drains are plugged try fishing a small wire down through it and blowing air down it to break up and remove any blockage.

If the '85 is like my '87 'Runner, it is not powered, it doesn'nt even retract, it just pops up 2 or 3 inches in the back, to give some ventilation. Very simple, non-tech stuff.

I've never tried to remove mine, but it seems like a no-brainer to unfasten the locking mechanism at the middle rear of the glass, so that the glass might be hinged up higher, then look to see what needs to be unfastened in the front in order to completely remove it.

In the alternative, consulting the FSM might be warranted.

Thanks guys, The handle is out but so far i've not found how to lift and slide the sun roof and frame out, but I will. By the way didn't mean to demean anyones intelligence, ignonance is simply not knowing anything about a given subject, not one's intelligence. I'm a retired 25 year Toyota Master tech but I still learn things every time I get on this forum and for that I really thank you guys for taking out the slack in my ignorance. Well have a good day all.

No tools required. Open the sunroof like normal. Pinch the chrome arms that go between the handle and the truck body together, they are spring loaded with pins that go into the body. Once this is out the sunroof can be pushed up significantly higher. There is a small clip on the driver's side which needs to be spread apart to completely unlatch the sunroof. Once that's disconnected the front just has a couple tabs that fit into slots in the body. Pull the sunroof up and back to remove. I can't imagine why the seal would ever be damaged from normal wear and tear, I'd assume the drain tubes might be clogged. There's one in each corner.

Thank you so much Arlindsay, I have copied these directions so that my ignorance doesn't get in the way. As soon as it quits raining I'm on to to remove the sunroof then I will clean and paint around the opening as well as the entire roof. Thanks again guys, I'm still learning.

Arlindsay, just thought I check in and thank you again, today is the first day it hasn't poured rain all day but I got it out like you said, so easy. now to clean it up or find a used one, it's really rusty on the front part but no holes yet, we'll see. but thanks again.
