i know this probably isn't the best question to have as one of my first posts but i'd rather not waste a call to USAA. Just got my 86 4runner, and i was going this week to get copies of the key. last night i park in my driveway, get a phone call, and have the bright idea to take the call in my car and place my keys in the console. needless to say i also found them there this morning when i was in a mad rush looking for them.
USAA will use there little tools to just slide in and pop it open, but i was wondering that on the off chance someone might now how to get it open myself. thanks for any help

Find someone else with a worn down Toyota key and use it.

Congrats on buying the 4runner. USAA is awesome insurance, too. My lawyer friend told me that the best and worst thing about USAA is that they always pay. Bad for the fact that scam artists can make so much money off of them, good because you are less likely to get sued because your insurance didn't pay.

I also love the yearly checks I get since I have my house and car insurance with them.

I just use the old fashioned bent clothshanger and stick it down the window and pop up the lock tab from the inside. I had to do that last week too. x2 on the worn toyota key, that works too.
