I'll be making the bumpers my self, I made the front and rear bumpers on my 89 pickup. I just need to make a run to the steel yard and pick up some steel tubing and sheet metal.

I was looking at the new matrix in gold at the dealership, thinking it looked pretty damn close my self too. I also have a site bookmarked that sells touchup paint for our color. $20 for a rattle can, they also sell pints and quarts of paint.

I started working on the rear bumper on Friday. Its coming along, just waiting on getting some brackets cut before I can mount it on the truck

Got my brackets the other night, did a little more work on the rear bumper yesterday. Its finally on the truck I marked the holes for the mounting brackets wrong the first time... And I had to move them over 5 inches.

Looks good. Its alot like the one that came on my 4runner. You might want to add some rear quarter panel protection later. These spots are notorious for getting banged up on due to the large amount of overhang we have.

Finished it up for now, later when I have the time I will be trimming the rear fenders and patching some rust. I will be cutting the ends of the bumper to match the new fender lines too.

Added a gusset to fill in the empty space in the corners and beef up the sides.



After some grinding and paint, looks pretty sharp





And a few more shots of the bumper, the silver on the shackles is a little brighter then I thought it would be. I might be spraying them again with something a little darker.







I will probably add some more side protection later down the road as well. I need to think about how I want to run the tube first

Well looks like I am taking the truck out on the trails for the first time on the 7th next month. So sliders are up next, and need to be finished before I go up

I did this up in solidworks, I really liked the kick out my last sliders had.



Picking up some tubing Saturday morning, then the bending starts.

The other week I started fixing the rust on the rear fenders. I removed 1.25" and welded in 1/4" steel rod along the edges. I still have a few holes on either side to patch up, and need to weld the inner skin to the 1/4".

I also got a DSLR camera again, my old Canon 300D failed a few months ago. I picked up a used 10D thats in great shape for its age.

Looks good. I like watching the progress on you rig. I think when you are done, our trucks are really going to look like twins. My sliders originally were square tubing with a slight kickout behind the doors, but when I had the corner protection added, they did the extra tubing attached to the kickout area too. I didn't like it for about 5 minutes, but now I am glad I did it.

I need to learn to weld. Maybe this Winter, I will start.

nice work man! I loved Austin's 4runner because of the color and stripes, and now there is another one to look at! I am looking at rescuing an 84 from a junk yard. Fully loaded, sun roof and all, hopefully I can pick it up for cheap...

Started on the sliders yesterday



I cut and welded legs for one of them, need to do the same on the other now. I am hoping to get them both finished, painted and mounted today.

I am going to work on the side braces for the rear bumper this week, and taking the truck wheeling next weekend.

Its a long ways off, but I just found out that I am going to a wedding in Minnesota next Summer. Since she's off all Summer, and I know about it early enough, we'll probably drive up early and then do some exploring on the way back. More than likely, we'll take the Tacoma or her Matrix, but if we get a wild hair, and take the 4runner, we'll have to get a photo of the twins.

I have determined I need a set of these. I squished my first rocker panel this weekend... lucky for me, its all rusted out and I was planning on replacing it soon anyways.

I had a set from 4xinnovations with the kick out on my 89 pickup, and I loved those sliders. I don't have the money to buy another set right now, nor did I have the time to order them and get them installed before next weekend. So do to short notice and lack of money I made my own this time

Nice! I am jealous if the clean trucks you guys have out in Cali.

Decided to take Thursday off, so I could build some half doors. I had to rush the sheet metal work, and the paint. But I got them done, and ready for the weekend. It was great having them on the trails, well worth the time it took. Now I just need to clean them up a bit.







Hit quite a few trails, and built it my confidence on the rocks pretty quick. I was hitting trails that my pickup never could do. The bumper passed the drop test 3 or 4 times this weekend, I dropped it pretty good on a few rocks And put some big gouges in the sliders too.
