So when my vehicle went through the real axle relocation and the brake swap, the previous owner decided not to hook up the parking brake.

Has anyone done a rear disk brake swap and connected the parking brake? What's the process? Any tips?

If you have discs with a parking brake built-in, figure out a way to hook up the cable. If not, add a parking brake on the transfer case.

Ok, so dumb question, how would I know if the brakes have a built in parking brake (I'm assuming it should be pretty obvious aesthetically)? I'll do my best to figure out how to put one in the transfer case but if anyone has any suggestions while I'm at it, they would be welcome.

Um, like look at them. If they have a built-in e-brake, there will be some sort of pivoting lever off of them that actuates the internal parking brake. Will look something like the e-brake lever on the stock drum brakes.

Ok that's kind of what I thought, thanks, just wanted to make sure it wasn't some kind of internal thing before I got down there and totally overlooked it.

Hey that's pretty sweet! I'm actually going to have to put in a full mechanical brake. Considering I park the vehicle to go ski for hours at a time, and want to be able to pull it out of gear and let it warm up in way below freezing temperatures before I roll out of the parking lot, it's going to have to not drain the battery, but awesome write up!

So while I was out working on some other stuff on my truck I found out that the rear calipers aren't set up for a parking brake.

Considering how much fabrication slacker had to do to get one in, I'm not sure how viable that is going to be for me. So that leaves the transfer case option and I'm less sure of where to start there.

By the way slacker, best build I've seen yet.

only thing I will add is that a driveshaft parking brake is not street legal / D.O.T. approved.

I like the idea of the $40 line lock kit, because it's cheap and lets the car warm up without someone in it holding the brake. Overnight it can be left in gear. I might have to look into that.

Also, if you don't have a locked rear end and a transfercase mounted ebrake will only be so effective. For instance, it locks the DRIVESHAFT and if you have an open rear end and youre on a slope and happen to have a rear tire on a slicker condition than the other it may slide out...IIRC. I've never had this issue with mine, just FYI. On the flip side if you are ever on a 45 degree hill, it will hold like a champ! lol!
