Help coverting my '85 xtra cab to efi!!
hey yall
. i got a 85 yoder extended cab that was originally efi, but somewhere along the line someone swaped in a carb . i have no idea what year this carb'd motor is, but it is a 22r. i have a 22re out of a 94 pickup in my garage. can i just swap the efi head onto it and have no problems eventhough its a 94 motor? or could i even just swap the intake? what would be the most "foolproof"? i'm not afraid to swap the head, it ain't my first rodeo, but it seems to me that just swapping the intake would be alot faster. thanks yall |

Don't forget the computer and all the sensors, etc to that go along with the new efi.

the 85 came with efi, and still has all the wiring and ecu, can i use the older 85 ecu with the newer 94 head or manifold?

You would need the 85 injectors in the 94 manifold

pull the valve cover and look at the timing chain double row 81-83 if it has a single chain with two chrome links together it's a 84 if only one chrome link on one side and one at the other end its a 85-95 block, the 85-95 block I'd slap the intake on earlier swap whole motor and yes you'll have to use 85 injectors and wiring harness

my dad has the 94 truck that the 'spare' motor came out of, he pulled it out and put in a 22re from my old '88 without changing anything, and it runs great. his 94 has stock ecu with a complete 88 motor including fuel injectors. so since he didn't have to swap injectors do i? i don't have the injectors from the 85, i bought it about a month ago and it was already carb'd. i do have the ecu and harness from the 88, can i use it with the 94 motor?
kinda off topic, but is there a difference in the 88 22re's? for some reason, from all the yoders i've had, my old 88 ran the best. |

hey thanks abecedarian for those links. from what i understand, my dad got lucky as hell! but knowing my luck i would've tried the swap and fried my ecm! thats why this site is so awesome. i would've been pissed if i fried my comp. lol.
so all i need to do is find some 85 injectors and put them into my 94 manifold right? |

if you have the harness from the 85 with the fuel injector connectors, you can compare the connectors to the injectors on the 94- if they plug in without modification, you should be fine since the injectors and connectors are all keyed differently. you can see that here on LCE's page: http://www.toyotacatalog.net/m1webge...spx?Class=1500
the first column has the 4 main injectors Toyota used and they have a diagram of the injector plug. Shoot, find some used 85 injectors and get them rebuilt, a helluva lot cheaper if you can find used ones for a decent price. Just make sure to wire evrything up RIGHT!!! I bought my 85 with a 95 engine swapped in it and the po did a piss poor job swapping that engine in. Stray/spliced wires wrapped in electrical tape all over the place. Quite a frikkin nightmare if you ask me!
