HELP 85 4runner auto stalls in drive stopped
Slowing down to a stop and once stopped engine Idles bad (shakes and stalls) rpms also drop. This is only when I'm stopped normally after sitting, its fine sitting in park and neutral. I changed the plugs and wires but no luck. Before this started happening the fuel pump was changed but the idle issue did'nt happen till I changed my header(LCE) and had to adjust idle due to it wanting to stall in park. After ajusting it was fine for months untill now. I thaught it could be 02 sensor but that don't add up.. Figured I would turn to the forum for advice I have been deployed off and on still figuring out my runner.

Yes its 22RE. Fuel pump and filter where both replaced last year. Is there any certain way to clean throttle body? Just use compressed air? Thank you nice ride.

Pick up a bottle of throttle body cleaner from the parts store.
There are threads 'round here on how to clean them, but you just want to give the inside a good bath with the cleaner.

To properly clean the throttle body you need to remove it to clean it. If you take off the intake hose it may look fairly clean, but its the part you can`t see that gets carbon fouled from the EGR. Also make sure all the small vacuum ports on the throttle body are clean and not plugged.
Don`t get any carb cleaner in the TPS, it can ruin it.

I was having this same issue and my buddy and I went through the engine and found an exhaust leak and several small vacuum leaks on the block. We plugged those up and runs smooth as silk now!

hello all, hoping this thread can revive. i just got an 87 4runner that was idling rough in gear. i'm pretty certain i made the classic mistake of trashing the tps by cleaning the throttle body still mounted with tps still on. darn it. i'm gonna get a tb gasket and take it off for a proper cleaning. seems like i should also check and if possible clean the iacv and egr. i have a new fuel filter to swap out the old one with but that is a tricky lil spot under the intake manifold. anyhow if anyone can offer suggestions for how to get my new machine running sweet, i'm all ears.
also wondering where best to get a tps replacement from. pick a part i suppose seems good, need a multimeter and practice using it.

In case anyone stumbles on my previous TPS inquiry, I replaced the ECT and that seems to have helped. Also got a multimeter so I can begin checking TPS and other electric components and wiring. My CSI connector is missing the locking wire and had a slow start in the cold. I'm going to try to start a new thread listing all of my 4R's known issues and continue documenting progress.
