Question Heater core hose from Intake Bottom Plate - OK?

Hey fellas, 84 pickup with 85 motor, Offy Intake.

Here's my backstory in some detail. I dropped my motor back in, filled with fresh Toyota Red and had a pinhole leak from the Passenger side water pipe on the timing cover leading to the water plate on the intake manifold (carbureted). So, stopped everything even though I was minutes away from the first start and tried to stop the leak. No go.

Long story short, I decided to block the Passenger side timing cover water plate using the LCE plates and while I had the intake off again, blocked the center of the head coolant port which is the hard pipe that wraps around the back of the head to the heater core.

My question is, is there any issue with running a hose to the heater core from the water plate port under the intake? I have read the diagrams and don't see how it would be bad. I just want to eliminate potential areas for leaks while I can, while retaining my heater core functionality.

Also, another question, can I reverse the heater core hose routing? Specifically, can I run the "yellow" hose to the bottom of the intake manifold water plate bung and run the "blue" hose to the steel pipe that the "yellow" one is currently hooked up to? I've read conflicting arguments that it doesn't matter which is inlet/outlet. If I can reverse the hose orientation, it would really simplify the plumbing and prevent me from having to use a 90* bend fitting and look super cluttered.
