Ok, it's been a while since I've been on here, and still working n my truck, getting it back to good running shape.

Something's wrong....it is not getting the full power that it should be getting....it's almost like its spitting and sputtering, once you build up the rpm's.

Any ideas...it was running fine one day, then all of a sudden, while going down the road, it just lost about 1/2 of its HP.

Not my daily driver, but it is "my baby" and I want it running right.

Sorry, told you I wasn't good at this.

Ok, it's a stick, with a carb, don't think it's the fuel filter(will check that tomorrow morning), no recent work done.

Could be ignition timing, a rich or lean condition, an ignition problem...

Pull your plugs and get a look at the color and condition. Black soot is rich, stark white is lean, tan/brown is normal.

Stock carb?

I have a 92 4runner 3.0 V6 and mine was doing the same thing. Running to rich, dying at idle, not switching gears like it should. Turned out to be a false TPS (throttle position sensor) and cured almost all my problems.

Hi 924runner.

Ride's truck is carbureted. Carburetors don't use throttle position sensors. Carbs are purely mechanical devices (with an occasional exception here or there).

I'd check that fuel filter first. Mine is doing something similar and been through a whole list of things. I'm down to needing to open up the gas tank and checking/replacing the strainer inside.

Of course there are may possibilities.A few it could be:
A vacuum line fell off,cracked,or wore a hole. Fuel pump dying.Vacuum advance diaphragm. Bad plugs,wires,rotor/cap.


If any emmisions device signals,like O2 sensor,fail to give your ECU feedback,the ECU reverts to "limp home" mode. Probably rich and retarded(mix and timing)
These are generic ideas,not specific to your Toyota...so!!
Get a manual.Download the FSM,.Look up your problem.Followthe troubleshooting chart,step by step.

84,before you drop the tank,have you done a fuel pressure/flow test?
And mechanical fuel pumps fail more often than gas tanks do.My Toy isEFI,but do Carb Toys have Mech fuel pumps?
If you 4wd hard,trace the fuel lines for damage.Good luck!
