funky high idle issue ( '84, 22R )
recently, i've been having an high idling issue with my '84. hope ya guys can help me!! i read a bunch of threads but found no real answers...
SET UP:
-stock carb'd 22r, 218,___ miles
SYMPTOMS:
-randomly will idle high ( anywhere from 1,100 to 1,600 )
-seems to have no correlation with cold start / warmed up engine / etc. problem occurs sometimes when dead cold.... sometimes fully warmed up.
DETAILS:
- runs totally fine outside of idle, rpm's don't seem to increase when truck is in gear rolling
-when problem is occuring and it's idling high.. if i kill it and return in 15 minutes or so the problem often times fades away and it idles at a reasonable RPM ( 800 / 900 )
-rpm's don't seem to plummet when they should. AKA when clutch is pressed in as truck is rolling ( essentially neutral i guess ). the rpm's either increase or remain where they were previously when in gear. i mean they drop... after maybe a second or so but i feel as if they should drop immediately... not rise then slowly drop.
-when coming to a stop as i press the clutch in, it almost feels as if the idle goes to where it should be then a magical 22r fairy grabs the idle RPM and brings it up to where ever it feels it should be. once again, anywhere from 1,100 to 1,600
THANKS FOR READING MY RAMBLING, hope it made sense...

alright today i checked all linkages n such.. nothing seemed abnormal.
my friend suggested pcv valve... seemed rattly n fine. seems to get more than enough suction going.
visually inspected vaccuum lines n such, nothing was unplugged and obvious.
i'm gonna drag it to school tomorrow and use the vaccuum tester gauge n the smoke machine to further diagnose it. nice to have these tools at school i tell ya.
also my friend is also saying it could be the egr valve. i'm terrible at smog related things but we shall see.
ill keep this ˟˟˟˟ updated so hopefully someone with a similar problem can learn from my headache
