Drive shaft center support bearing
i have an 84 toyota 4x4 ext cab. the drive shaft center support bearing is shot. im looking to replace it and would like to know, is it hard to replace? is it something i could do at home or would i have to take it to a shop? if anyones changed it before your help would be appreciated

ya. mine has the two piece drive shaft. would i be better off putting a one piece drive shaft on. will a one piece work? i think mine is a two piece because i have and extended cab

i found the drive shaft center support bearing at auto zone for $112. i expected it to be cheaper but it needs to be replaced so i have to spend that much i guess.

a spanner is a wrench, he from down under. I did one couple months ago. Its real simple. couple wrenches(spanner) and a hammer. But that sucker not cheap. I think I paid $135 at advance

Well i got it replaced. My truck drives so much smoother now. It was fairly easy to replace and took like 45 min. I ended up having to pay $140 for it. These things are ridiculously priced

before you pull the drive shaft apart make sure to mark the 2 shafts. if you get them out of alignment it can be a pain to correct. you also want to stay away from master parts or parts master bearings they are only good for a year if you are lucky. people caught on so they switched the name, eather way they are junk.

Im having a small issue with this same topic
Mine is a 1991 ext. cab. the bolt that holds the flange on that needs to removed to get to the center support bearing is hard to find i guess. I have my bearing but the book says the this bolt must be replaced every time its removed due to it needing to be chiseled. I think its called a spindle nut, this one is 24mm. It is obvious that the previous owner did not replace it when he changed the bearing because you can see two different chisel marks on the bolt and some of the thread dont look very good. Its a two piece drive shaft, i tried to find this "spindle nut" at the local Kragen / O'reily, and at Autozone and am having no luck at all online at any genuine Toyota parts dealer. O'reily went through many nuts for me and had a Mazda M1 spindle nut that looked similar so i bought it but its a tiny bit to small. Any suggestions would be appreciated greatly. I tired to find a problem similar to mine and post about it but i looked again and realized I'm in 84-85 section, should i start a new thread in a 91-ish section? Sorry for the mistake.

Way I see it you have 2 options to you. One is go to a junk yard. There is a thread on here that posts like 75 Toyota platform based yards. (thank god for Y.T.!) I have been buying from Yota Jims if you dont mind the shipping. I've found them curious, knowledgeable, and part rich. Their # is 303.506.5119.
The other is take your damaged part to a specialty bolt and nut shop, there is a huge one here in Dallas that has about anything you need so you might try checking for a big huge ole bolt and nut supplier in the biggest closest city 2u.
Oh I guess a 3rd option would be to try a gear shop near you. That might work too.

Seeing both PN 37230-35050 (for standard cabs) and 37230-35080 (for extended cabs).
Resurrecting this thread - carrier bearings are now available for $22 on eBay, and so just to see how long one lasts/be a guinea pig, I bought two. Installing the 1st one today. I don't cheap out on parts, but I just had to try a bearing for $210 less than Toyota wants
I've read on pirate that any 2nd gen standard cab long bed 1-piece rear driveshaft will work as a substitute. Wonder if others know about the veracity of this.

$22 center support bearing
Looks pretty good at first. Looking more closely, the welds are not as good as those on the 6-7 year old bearing - there is as much - or more - material welded as on the old one, but the welds are not done as well. The angles are the same. Metal thickness is the same. The bearing race is just the way it should be - not too tight or loose.
"Matchmark all flanges." It all went on smoothly and spins very well. Torqued the (old/miraculously saved) 24 mm nut to 134 ft lbs, loosened, torqued to 51 ft lbs, and staked the nut per the manual. That nut is supposed to be replaced: we'll see. 54 ft lbs on the driveshaft bolts. 27 ft. lbs. on the 2 bearing mounts.

FYI my $27 rockauto el cheapo center support carrier bearing has about 10k miles and is all good so far.
Main issue replacing these things is to mark the splines before you remove the old one or the drive shaft will be "out of phase".
