axle question

I have a 85 4runner with a 93 rear axle with a lockrite, This may be a dumb question but can I put my rear 93 axle third member up front and my front in the rear axle??? reason why is I want my lockrite up front and buy a spool for the rear.

Ya, I thought so.... anyways just checking someone told me that the newer axle out of the 93 truck was "heavy duty" because of the V-6 engine so that's why the dumb question.

I've always assumed that you had to use another 4 cyl diff. Are their any internal parts that are different between V-6 and 4cyl? How about the fit? Is there any grinding needed to be done to the housing opening to make it fit?

You can use a V6 diff on the front solid axle, it will bolt right up. The diff housings are different, as are the bearings for the V6 carrier. It is a stronger design, and some guys run them front and back.
