Any threads on replacing throw out bearing?
I am looking to replace the throw out bearing on my 1985 4Runner, 22re w/ 5 speed manual transmission. Are there any threads on how to do so? I have searched but had no luck.

I've swapped out throwout bearings in other vehicles and the hardest part was always getting the transmission away from the engine.
The Toyota FSM mentions a retaining clip as the only thing to look for once you are actually eyeballing the throwout bearing.

So, do you JUST want to know about the throw out bearing? Pack bearing full of grease and using a bolt of the same bore, smoothed, pack the grease in behind the bearing. Repeat as required till the bearing pops out.

I think Big Blue Pile's thinking of the pilot bearing. The throwout bearing isn't too hard...once the transmission is out.
I had a heck of a time getting mine off the bearing hub...I don't have a very stocked garage and couldn't find something that fit to press it off. I finally just took it to a machine shop and had them do it. Any local small garage would probably do the same, probably for free, or along with some other service, like if they were changing out your tires or whatever you still bring your truck to a shop for.

Yeah, I have a pilot bearing tool (I called it "idler bearing" above, whups). Three fingers that expand when you thread the rod inside, a slide hammer on the human side of it.
I bought the tool for RX-7s, it can be used with most other vehicles.

I have already replaced all the other bearings and clutch (i bought a rebuilt longblock). I figured while I am waiting for my 4.7 Marlin gears to get installed I might as well change the throwout bearing as well.

dont clutch kits always come with TO bearings? if you have the tranny off it is very simple to replace. you will know how when you look at it.
actually are you thinking of the right bearing when you say throwout bearing? the throwout bearing just makes contact between the clutch fork and the pressure plate.
