87 Turbo 4Runner: Rebuild Tips/ Parts/ Turbo
I just found this forum while searching for tech help with a newly acquired 87 Turbo 4Runner Auto 4X4. Purchased it from a Toyota tech who disassembled the motor due to spun rod bearings and blown turbo.
The Pros: Great Rust free frame, suspension, shell. Black paint, grey interior, inclinometer, power everything. Not too bad for a 20 year old.
The Cons: Spun rods, bad crank, pistons shot, turbo is toast (compressor wheel grenaded).
I need gaskets, rods, crank, bearings and a turbo. How much of the 22R/ 22RE compatible with the Turbo 22R? Are rods, crank the same? I know the pistons must be lower compression than the regular 22r.
I have vendors I order from, Clevite77 for bearings, Rock Products for gaskets and everything else, Preferred Engine Gaskets(Victor Reinz). I have a machine shop selling me rods, crank, pistons, gaskets for $300 bucks. I just don't want to be burned.
Turbo CT20: Options? My center cartridge/ exhaust wheel/ compressor housing are good. But the compressor wheel is shot and exhaust housing was welded shut
Any help? thanks in advance.
