85 yota SR5 - rebuild or drive til it dies?
Ok, here is the deal, I bought a 1985 Toyota SR5 xtra cab 1 1/2 years ago because I did the research & wanted something that was already solid front axle with manually locking hubs. I was living in rural ohio & my family has rural country property that has some small trails. I have been using it as a daily driver but I'm not sure if I want to keep it anymore because I moved into the city. I don't have any rural back roads to drive down covered in snow anymore. I have to drive an hour back to the family property if I do want to go thru some fields or the woods, and now I'm hearing a "tap-tappity-tap" somewhere around the head/valve cover area near the 3rd or 4th cylinder at 2200 rpm. The noise isn't there until you hit certain engine speeds, & is non existent for the most part. Also I just did an oil change and when started I have oil pressure, but after 5-10 minutes the gauge stops showing any oil pressure at all, like the gauge dies. So I found a rebuild kit for like $300, and other than that motor problem the only other issues are really cosmetic (like bed rust, horrible bed rust) - So should I take it off the road for a few months & rebuild the motor for myself, replace the bed & keep it as a driver, or should I find someone who likes stock 1985 4x4's who would be able to utilize it better than me? Let me know what you think. I put 2 videos on youtube, one is a walk-around of the truck with it parked & motor running at the end so you can hear the noise. The 2nd is the truck actually driving around for 4 minutes. Let me know what you think, I appreciate any feedback.

A link to the videos would help if you want us to see them. But I say REBUILD! Or sell and get something more suited for your needs. It all depends on what YOU want to cruise around in.

I vote to keep it... or ship it to me.
If you decide to do a rebuild, start looking for beds right away. Most people around here want $400 for a used but in good condition bed for our trucks, I lucked up and got one off a wrecked truck for $100.00. Beds can be difficult to find, unless you want to pay big money and get a fiberglass one.

Sorry, I suppose the video links would help. I was getting ready for work & totally forgot about putting those in the post. check out the noise & tell me what you think! Thanks!
this is the truck just taking a spin around the block
here is the walkaround of the truck & at the end of the video the engine is running & you can hear the tappity tap tap noise.

Is the noise coming from front of valve cover or the back?
Just guessing but wondering if timing chain guide/guides are broken.
I'ts hard to tell, but anyway spend the 300 smackola's and fix it.
Except for the bed I think it's worth keeping.
If it were me I would probably do a flat bed.
