Unhappy '85 pickup woes

Alright gents, here's the scoop.

A buddy of mine convinces me to clean out my carburetor on my 85 pickup at 2 in the morning. Tired as I was, I agreed and ran and got some carb cleaner.

Sprayed it in, wiped out the residue with a clean rag and let the rest of the solvent evaporate over a one hour period.

Put everything back together, crank it, and I was slapped in the face with my truck losing its will to idle. I thought to myself, "oh...well, maybe a vacuum hose is disconnected or something." I go to tear it back apart and check all my connections, vacuum and electrical. Everything was prime. The idle adjustment screw and air/fuel mix screw were not touched whatsoever during the process.

I was able to drive it home, but I could not take my foot off the gas for the life of me. It required to lightly hold the pedal down while stopping and stopped, otherwise it drove fine except for the rapid slowdown if I let go of the accelerator at say 40mph.

I'm stumped on this one, but one more thought came to my head as I was cursing on the way home. Is it possible that all of the carb cleaner just didn't evaporate and it'll be gravy in the morning?

Aight a quick update to my situation.

I ended up buying the carb to intake manifold gasket and installing it on my pickup today. The good news is that I can get it to idle now. The bad news is that there is now an insatiable squeal coming from the carburetor area and I had it stall on me twice today trying to take off from a dead stop.

Any ideas?
