'85 Hilux engine identification help
Hello everyone.
Recently I became a Hilux LN65 owner and already I'm in need of advise.
Background: I've been looking to buy for a 84-88 Hilux for almost a year now.. and finally had to import one from the Netherlands, since it seems impossible to find one here in Austria. The engine seems to be running ok, no smoke, starts right up, idles well, lots of rust, some on the frame but should be repairable. RHD - but who cares, I am not gonna overtake anyone anyway. The plan is to get it to a semi-original state, without doing a complete restoration:
After (..yeah I am an idiot..) I brought the truck home and started shopping for parts, I realized that I can't read the engine identification number. Either scratched by accident or on purpose. VIN checks out though, so at least it's not stolen. According to the VIN, it should be the Toyota 2L engine but the valve cover and cam belt housing looked different to me then in the pictures I found on google. Then again, in some pictures it looked the same.
Long story short, I am not quite sure if I have the original engine and would greatly appreciate if someone could point me to a sure-fire way of checking.

Thanks
