85 4runner / 3rz

Picked up a 1985 4 runner with a 1999 3rz swap done (decently clean swap)
Was a EFI truck to begin with, so I imagine that made things a bit easier. I'm going through and making sure I understand what was swapped and what each piece does and clean up any loose ends.

Truck...has IFS hubs and bigger brake calipers/master cylinder. Fit the wheels by grinding a bit on the inside of the wheel and the outside of the caliper

This white push switch is near the driver footwell, down near the radio. I had a 1986 4Runner with a 22re and I don't believe this push style switch was there....factory/use? Doesn't seem to do anything from my screwing around with it

Engine...want to get a stock air box...not sure if it will fit though

Electric fan setup. I don't know the brand (looks to be a kit that was bought, but not sure) and it has weird behavior. Want to dive further into this and understand why it kicks on at random times and only runs for 5-10 seconds at a time. Anyone recognize if this is an off the shelf deal? One small and one large fan.

Nice swap, looks to be fairly clean. The push button is NOT factory. Possibly a kill switch? I like the fan/radiator setup!

I see that it does have the rear dipstick and the front dipstick tube. Make sure that its swapped to the rear sump/pan or else your axle will take out your pan. Can you post some more engine bay shots and one of the heater core hoses? I still need to route mine.

The dipstick has been moved to the side of the engine with a T100 pan

Ill get some more pics, but it is tight back there.

That push button switch looks like the door switches that control that god awful beep when the door is open. Could be that he moved it so its not on all the time...

^this, the switch looks exactly like the ones in my door jambs for the buzzer/lights circuit. trace the wires and see what the PO connected it to.

for the fan setup, perhaps just get a new fan controller and rewire it the way you need it to function.

good luck on stock airbox on that side. you may have to chop one up and customize it to fit the space.

overall, looks like a great setup! wish my rig had a 3rz - my inlaws have a tacoma 4x4 with the 3rz and that thing has considerably more pep compared to my 22re truck.

the switch was for a function on the radio. Had to swap radios and took it out.

As for the fan, I still need to find where the temp reading is taken and go from there.

Awesome find!

My 85 4Runner will get a 3RZ when my 22RE gives up the ghost.

The only thing that has me stumped is the electric fan, which is unique to this swap.

If you haven't redone the wiring for that fan yet I would reroute them asap. Disaster waiting to happen with them routed loosely in front of those pulleys.

Fans could be junk yard or since they look like they are in good shape could be a low profile pair from summit. Start tracing wires, should be able to find a sensor.

coming along....added a 9000 lb Harbor Freight winch using Trail Gears winch mount plate. Had to make a few mods for my own setup, but worked ok. Cut the factory bumper up so I could use the outside pieces and keep it looking clean and keep the factory turnsignals
