Ok ive done quite a bit of research on this topic but havent quite had my question answered. so heres the story. went out for a putt put with the wife one night my yoter us running perfect then 5th gear at 2200 rpms the CEL turns on. no change in the trucks performance no sputtering just a stupid orange light glaring into my eyes. so i let off the throttle to about 1800 rpms and the liht disappeared at about 2000. still no issues. all of the symptoms are pointing to a code 12 for the knock sensor being on the fritz. my question is what is the likelyhood for a knock sensor to fail? I have read that some folks just had the connector a little loose or they replaced the harness and priblem solved. this truck is my baby and im in a portion of cali where you smog one then done. never have to smog again and since there was no change to performance that seemed detrimental or harmful im slightly inclined to simply ignore it. or disconnect the sensor completely ( if thats even an option) but thats my quandry/question whats the likely hood of sensor failure and would just disconnecting the sensor be harmful . Or if anyone has a different idea please share . This truck is my 30 year old new to me yoter and i absolutely love it any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance

Yes it could be the sensor but it also could any of the wiring to the ecu or the ecu as well.

The code just means the ECU is unable to detect the sensor so it retards the timing .

Do some trouble shooting to figure out the real problem.
